Inauguration of the Ukrainian Language and Culture Center in Bălți, Modernized by People in Need Moldova

The initiative was funded through the SOS Ukraine Fund, supported by generous donations from Czech citizens.

The inauguration event brought together the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Moldova, Paun Rohovei, representatives of People in Need Moldova, the university leadership, faculty members, and students. Participants had the opportunity to visit the renovated premises and discuss the Center’s role in promoting the Ukrainian language and culture.
The Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Moldova, Paun Rohovei, emphasized that the inauguration of the modernized Center represents an important step in strengthening the Ukrainian cultural and educational presence in the Republic of Moldova, particularly in the context of Russia’s war against Ukraine.
The modernization included a full renovation of the premises, equipping the Center with modern furniture and technical equipment tailored to current educational and cultural needs.
The Ukrainian Language and Culture Center serves as a space for courses, conferences, seminars, and cultural-educational events, and is also open to the public through its Ukrainian literature library. In its modernized form, the Center will continue to function as an academic and cultural platform for students, professors, and researchers, while facilitating international cooperation between the university and leading institutions in Ukraine.
Alecu Russo State University of Bălți is the only higher education institution in the Republic of Moldova that provides training and professional development for teachers of the Ukrainian language and literature. Most Ukrainian language teachers in Moldova’s schools are graduates of this university, highlighting its essential role in preserving and promoting Ukrainian linguistic and cultural heritage.
