The Association of Independent Press (API) has approved the new Institutional Development and Advocacy Strategy for 2025–2029, reaffirming its role as a leader in supporting independent media in the Republic of Moldova. The strategy establishes a solid action framework to ensure media sustainability, strengthen the capacities of its members, and promote an environment conducive to free and professional journalism.
The strategy was developed as part of the Resilient Media for Informed Citizens project implemented by API in partnership with the Centre for Human Rights and Democracy of People in Need, and financed by the European Union. The document reflects the conclusions of an extensive consultation process with journalists, civil society members, and media experts, being built on the real needs of the sector.
The strategy outlines actions in four key areas:
• Increasing the sustainability and resilience of independent media;
• Strengthening the capacities of local and regional newsrooms;
• Promoting fair media policies and a favorable legal framework;
• Combating disinformation and promoting critical thinking.
"Independent media plays an essential role in keeping society informed and on the democratic path. The 2025–2029 Strategy is a clear commitment to the future of quality journalism in the Republic of Moldova," stated Mihail Sirkeli, Chair of the API Board of Directors.
The European Union Delegation continuously supports the development of a free and pluralistic media ecosystem in the Republic of Moldova, in line with European standards on freedom of expression and access to information.
