On 4 December 2025, People in Need Moldova, in partnership with the Embassy of Slovenia, organised the first training workshop for teachers and facilitators who will implement the international “Our Rights” methodology in the Republic of Moldova. The event took place at the Google Room—Classroom of the Future, hosted by the Ion Creangă State Pedagogical University.
The introduction of this methodology in Moldova complements People in Need’s existing educational initiatives, particularly the One World in Schools (OWIS) programme. OWIS strengthens children’s critical thinking, media literacy, and the inclusion of refugee children through the use of documentary films and moderated discussions.
By introducing “Our Rights,” People in Need seeks to strengthen children’s understanding of their rights and responsibilities, and to contribute to the creation of a safe, inclusive, and respectful educational environment.
The opening session featured welcome messages from representatives of key institutions in the fields of education and child protection, including Corina Lungu (Ministry of Education and Research), Diana Miron (UNICEF), Tamara Tentiuc (People's Advocate Office), and Nino Karanadze (People in Need Moldova).
Participants joined online remarks from the Ambassador of Slovenia, Blanka Jamniček, who highlighted the international significance of the programme, as well as a contextual presentation delivered by Dr Anica Mikuš Kos, the author of the methodology.
The training included an introduction to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, a presentation of the “Our Rights” methodology, a model lesson, group work sessions for lesson planning, and discussions on steps for implementation in classrooms and EduTech Labs.
In total, 40 teachers and facilitators participated in the training and will go on to deliver structured educational activities. It is estimated that more than 1,000 students will participate in at least 40 activities dedicated to promoting children’s rights, empathy, and peaceful coexistence. The students will be both Moldovan, as well as refugee children from Ukraine.
People in Need will monitor the implementation process to ensure quality delivery and alignment with national efforts to strengthen human rights education.
The “Our Rights” methodology, contributes to inclusive society, stronger civic competencies, cohesive school communities, and learning spaces that promote respect and empathy among children.
Developed in Slovenia, the “Our Rights” methodology has reached over 500,000 children in 27 countries since 2005. It has been translated into 23 languages and is internationally recognised for its contribution to promoting tolerance, respect, non-discrimination, and intercultural understanding.
