Summer Camp: a fun and safe way to integrate children into the community
Published: Aug 30, 2024 Reading time: 2 minutesFrom 24 June until 22 August, 160 children enjoyed eight weeks of memorable experiences at Summer Camp, thanks to our Moldova partner - AO Regional Women's Center EVA (CRF EVA).
At the camp, we addressed issues of social isolation and difficulties children from refugee families face trying to adapt. Children from disadvantaged Moldovan communities, especially from the Causeni district, also attended the camp.
Coming to a foreign country, Ukrainian children face numerous challenges. They require psychological support, access to education, and opportunities to socialise. Additionally, recreational and educational activities are a crucial way to help them process the trauma of war and adapt to their new living conditions in Moldova.
For the Moldovan children who participated, this Summer Camp was an opportunity for personal development, entertainment, and making new friends.
To give each camper the necessary attention and support, the CRF EVA team divided the children into eight groups of 20. Creating smaller groups allowed the team to take the campers on exciting trips to explore new locations.
The Summer Camp programme combined several activities, such as recreational sports, art and creative workshops, educational workshops, personal development, excursions, prevention and awareness lessons, first aid lessons, promoting a healthy lifestyle and many others.
The kids became acquainted with the history and culture of Moldova, visiting museums in Causeni and Chisinau. They learned safety rules while visiting the Emergency Situations Department in Causeni and the General Police Inspectorate in Causeni.
They also had financial education lessons during a visit to FinComBank SA, where they learned about the history of money, the possibilities of using bank cards, and the security and protection of their data in the online environment.
However, the most impressive trip for the children was their visit to the Moldovan Parliament.
The little explorers had a chance to see the huge meeting rooms, meet with MPs, talk with them, and learn about the importance of state institutions.
This project was realised by AO Regional Women's Center EVA, with the financial support of People in Need Moldova from #SOSUkraine funds, donations from the Czech people.
